It was not just Sonam Kapoor but even her father
Anil Kapoor who was supposed to walk the red carpet at the Cannes film festival,
but the duo never did. And the one who is alleged to have stopped it all was
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. It has now been confirmed that Sonam was supposed to be
in Cannes on May 19. She had even got her visa done for France. Sources told
Headlines Today that cosmetic brand L”Oreal didn’t intend to bring Sonam Kapoor
to the Cannes fest initially. But a few weeks before the festival, the company
realised it made sense to have the youngest of their current brand ambassadors
across the world at the festival.
In a last minute decision, they decided to get Sonam
to Cannes for the red carpet.Sources said the same brand had independently sent
an invitation to Anil Kapoor as well to walk the red carpet. The idea was that
the Slumdog Millionaire actor would walk the red carpet with his daughter and
introduce her to the media as L’Oreal’s newest brand ambassador. Now that the
invitation to Sonam has been withdrawn, allegedly under pressure from Aishwarya,
Anil Kapoor too has decided not to attend the red carpet.
Sources said Anil had initially intended to decline
the invitation because he was tied up with preparations for the shooting of an
American TV show. He accepted the invitation later because of the platform
Cannes would provide to his daughter.
