Movie Review – Khichdi (2010)

Khichdi- The Movie: Comedy Family Ki Family Comedy

If you grew up watching the popular Hindi TV serial Khichdi then you are bound to love the movie as well. The Parekh Family is filled with some of the most over-the-top characters that you will ever see and whenever they come together mayhem is not far behind. Most people would expect that a half hour long serial cannot be remade into a hit movie but the ‘Khichdi’ cast proves them wrong.

The story as narrated by the only two members of the Parekh family (Jacky and Chucky), who are well-versed with the ways of the world. Satish Shah plays God and explains how the Parekh family is completely different from the rest of his creations. The story is about Himanshu’s (JD Majethia) search for true love. After initial goof ups the Parekhs finally come across an equally out-of-the –whack family called the ‘parminders’. Peculiarly all the 50 members of the Parminder-family is named Parminder.

The romance between Himanshu and Parminder will leave you laughing hysterically. Now here is the twist, Himanshu always dreamt of having a ‘Legendary Love story’. Since no true love story is complete without a little hitch the parekh family members start disrupting the wedding plans in their own way.

The movie is filled with popular lines by some of the most endearing characters like ‘Babuji Main Hoon Na’. Anang Desai as Babuji is irritated as ever and the rest of the cast provides a superb performance. Our advice , if you are looking for an all-out entertainer then go watch the movie with your friends and you will surely come out of the hall with a grin on your face.

The Robot : Love Story of The Future!

If you had a tiresome week and want to relax and have a great time with your family then The Robot is the perfect weekend masala flick for you. Rajnikanth is back with a bang and although he does not really utter “Enna Rascala…Mind It!” his body language and style is still over the top.

The movie is about a scientist, Dr. Vasi (Rajnikanth) who creates a humanoid robot that looks just like him. Dr. Vasi creates the robot (Chitti) to serve the purpose of humanity and much more. Trouble starts brewing when Dr. Vasi teaches Chitti to feel emotions. We were surprised o see that Rajnikanth –Aishwarya pair looked ravishing on screen and their chemistry was palpable. The story cannot be tagged as science fiction, simply put it is a romantic-comedy-masala-action –thriller set in the future where the laws of physics no longer apply.

The robot starts to have romantic ideas about the scientist’s girlfriend Sana (Aishwarya Rai). Thus develops the love triangle of the 21st century between Aishwarya Rai, Robot Rajnikanth and actual Rajnikanth. The fight between man and machine has been taken to the next level in “The Robot”

The best part about the movie has to be the special effects, report suggest that the producers hired the special effects team from ‘Avatar’ to design the CGI effects for the action sequences.This movie has some of the most awe-inspiring and jaw-dropping action sequences that Indian Cinema has ever seen.

Some of the special effects are so breathtaking that they might give certain Hollywood movies a run for their money. AR Rahman may not have shown his brilliance in the CWG song but he is out in his full glory for Robo. The dance sequences have been choreographed by Prabhu Deva and look surreal.

“The Robo” is the perfect get away from the real world and allows us to have 3 hrs of absolute, no-holds-barred entertainment.

Director Sidharth Anand has come back with his latest offering that provides a unique take on the generic Rom-coms. Anjana Anjani is not your typical ‘Boy Meets Girl’ love story; it is unique in its own way. This is a love story between two strangers who meet under unusual circumstances and manage to find love.

NYC boy Akash (Ranbir Kapoor) and Kiara (Priyanka Chopra) are not satisfied with their lives and want to commit suicide. The strangers come across one another during one such attempt and find out that they do not have nerves required to commit the act. So the duo plan to help each other out and become partners in death (sounds corny right?). What ensues is a 20-day road trip that takes the couple all over scenic locales all over America.

The two characters are fed up with life and do not want to live any longer but they end up enjoying each other’s company. Kiara and Akash embark on across-country trip with death as their destination but they find love instead.

The movie is filled with a lot of comic moments, which although predictable but still manage to gather quite a few laughs from the audience. The dance tracks and song sequences are a high point of the movie. The chemistry between Priyanka and Ranbir is fantastic and they complement each other’s acting. The characters are pretty believable and you will surely love the light-hearted fun of Anjana Anjani.

Benny and Babloo: See Two Similar World Through Their Eyes

Benny and Babloo is the story of two friends Benny (Kay Kay Menon) and Babloo (Rajpal Yadav) who like the average Indian is smitten by the Glamour of Mumbai and come to the city to realize the so-called ‘Indian Dream’. Benny gets a job as the Bellboy at a suburban five-star hotel; on the other hand Babloo becomes a waiter at a ladies Service Bar.

Initially Benny considers his job to be superior to that of Babloo and there is a certain element of discord between the two best-buds. After a few uncomfortable incidents the duo realizes that their jobs are similar only with different exteriors. Benny and Babloo manages to engage the audience and takes them on the trip along with the two characters.

Benny sees through the outer appearance of the elitists and bureaucrats of the society and finds the murky truth behind their polished exterior. On the other hand Babloo looks at the humane side of the poor Bar dancers who are shunned by the society. Writer-director Yunus Sajawal paints a grim picture about the dual standards of the Moral Police which condemns the poor bar dancers and turns a blind eye to the misdemeanors of the higher-classes.

The film asks an important question, are the bar girls a bigger threat than the terrorists? For the casual audience the movie might seem like a comedy but the strong undercurrent of social message in the movie is palpable.

Salman Khan is his good friend, so when Karan Johar
celebrated his 37th birthday at Hotel Four Seasons in Mumbai on May 25, Sallu’s
absence was too glaring to go unnoticed. A couple of other A-listers, such as
Aamir Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Kajol and John Abraham, were missing too, but then they
were either sick or away from Mumbai.

But neither was the case with Salman. In fact,
Salman’s brothers Sohail and Arbaaz accompanied by their wives were present at
the party but Sallu was no where to be seen. There are rumours that Katrina was
also invited but she could not make it as she had just landed from South
Africa.The real reason for Sallu’s absence is unknown.

Was it because of his break up with Katrina (he

Kissne Dekha being delayed, but newcomer Jackky Bhagnani perks up when he
recalls the special moment he shared with childhood friend Kareena Kapoor. In
Ahmedabad for a concert to promote his upcoming film, Jackky was nervous until
Kareena assured him that everything would be all right. “I couldn’t have been
more thankful to her that particular evening when I had to step up on stage in
front of a 25,000-strong crowd. I was extremely nervous and was wondering
whether I would be able to crack the show till Kareena gave me a helping hand,”
Jackky said. He is currently on a six-city tour to promote his debut film, which
is a musical thriller.

“She supported me at every step that evening. She
calmed me down even as I openly told her that I was very nervous. She simply
told me that ‘Jackky, you are a nice dancer, just go with the flow and leave
yourself to the beats’,” he said.”It was especially sweet of her when she held
my hand after the show and introduced me to the public. I will cherish that
moment forever because Kareena has been a great friend during my growing up
years. However, now it was a superstar actress bringing a newcomer in front of
the audience. It couldn’t have been bigger,” said Jackky, who admits that during
the last three years he wasn’t really in touch with Kareena. “We grew up

Her sister Karisma has worked in a number of movies

Saif Ali Khan was nearly handcuffed in New York

have often landed him in trouble with the law. Though the Chote Nawab has almost
every time found a convenient escape route out of the messy legal web, he
recently had a shave so close with the law that he was on the verge of being
handcuffed and put behind bars. Shooting in New York for Rensil D’Silva’s flick
‘Qurbaan’, Saif with Vivek Oberoi in tow landed in trouble with some policemen.
The two actors were almost arrested by officials who had no clue about the
actors’ identity.

Story goes that Saif And Vivek were shooting for a
scene in a hilly region of the city. As per the scene, the two actors were
required to drive hastily.Unable to capture a perfect shot, the duo, much to the
annoyance of the locals, gave umpteen shots to get the sequence right.Peeved by
the harsh driving sequence, the locals called up the cops, who wasted no time in
interrogating the actors. Despite the two actors repeatedly telling the cops
that they were actors from India and were shooting for a film, the cops refused
to believe them. And it was only after the intervention by the production crew
that the cops let go of the two actors.

Confirming the incident, a news daily quoted a
source as saying, “Even though the production team saw what was happening on
their monitors, and one of them immediately rushed to help, it took him a good
10 minutes before he could reach the actors. By then, the cops had almost
arrested them on suspicion and were all set to take them to the police
station.

However, the unit member rescued the actors in the
nick of time. The cops only let them go after all the necessary documents were
shown”.

Millionaire Mohammed Azharuddin Ismail and Rubina Ali after their houses in the

As fate has it, Aamir Khan, who has been in the US
with his kids on a vacation, flew back to Mumbai for a short stay.It is said
that Danny wasted no time in seizing the opportunity.The news is doing the

Karisma, Kareena lend ‘dum’ to Salman

Not entirely true. Bollywood’s lovely Kapoor
sisters, Karisma and Kareena, are confirmed guests to kick off the first episode
of the game show’s second season on Monday. A source close to the Kapoor girls
admitted, “They were approached by the channel. Karisma is busy tending to her
daughter Samaira and Kareena’s occupied with professional commitments, but still
— the two sisters readily agreed to go on the show because they are fond of
Salman.

Both girls have always declined invitations by
reality shows earlier to appear together… but for Salman’s sake, they made an
exception. Besides Kareena’s fondness for Salman, the two are also co-stars in
Main Aur Mrs Khanna, which is also why she decided to be part of Sallu’s show.
In the last season, the actor had used his considerable goodwill in Bollywood to
get stars like Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone and Aamir Khan and nephew

Seems like we’ve officially had the first big
casualty of the ongoing multiplex-producer battle. The release of Shah Rukh
Khan’s next, My Name is Khan might just be postponed to the early part of next
year. Yup, you heard it right! A little birdie tells me that Shah Rukh Khan has
no intentions of bearing the brunt of the ever-changing release dates of all
movies. Thanks to the shuffling in the release schedules, a lot of major
producers are trying to scuttle around and find ’safe Fridays’ to release their
films.

Add to that there is the concern of cutting into
each other’s business. So Shah Rukh Khan who was initially supposed to release
his film around December will now let Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots and Saif Ali Khan’s
Qurbaan fight it amongst themselves. Shah Rukh, I am given to believe, is
looking at releasing the film some time in early 2010. What a relief, at least
we’ll have something to look forward to in the new year!

Has Mallika Sherawat given a bared scene in her upcoming Hollywood
film, Hissss is the first question that comes to mind after watching its
trailer. Just recently, the first promo of the much in news anticipated Mallika
Sherawat starrer Hissss is out and we must admit it does make for an interesting
watch.

The promo gives the impression that it is a no nonsense thriller that is
certainly not meant for the faint hearted as it has plenty of blood and gore. A
surefire Adults Only certificate cannot be ruled out from Indian Censor
Board.

The trailer shows Mallika Sherawat slithering in mud and becoming a deadly
snake. She is shown covered in a body suit that fits her like second skin and
during many times while watching the trailer it gives the impression that
Mallika hasn’t worn anything.

There are sequences shown with many murders happening. In one scene Mallika
is shown slithering up a tree and baring her fangs and shocks your wits. Then in
another scene she is shown transformed into a helpless woman. Also seen in the
trailer are the film’s other Indian stars, Irrfan Khan and Divya Dutta.

The plot of Hissss revolves around a snake woman played by Mallika Sherawat
looking for revenge.

Irrfan and Divya Dutta play a couple and reportedly there is a very
passionately shot love making scene between the two. The film appears high on
special effects.

Kangana Ranaut royally ignored

sizzling chemistry between Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori—but one person who is
supposedly feeling left out in the whole buzz around the film is Kangana Ranaut.
Not only has the actress not been taken to Cannes, but her name is missing from
the synopsis of the film doing the rounds of the Internet. Producer Rakesh
Roshan, denies these allegations. “There is nothing like that. We have not
started the publicity of the film as yet. When we do, she will get her due
credit. She is very much a part of the film. When the promo of Krrish was
unveiled, it had only Hrithik, does that mean Priyanka was sidelined from the
film? No,” he says.

Rumour mills suggest that the Roshans may have sidelined Kangana as they
would rather promote the film with the hype around Hrithik and Barbara. There
were reports that Kangana threw tantrums on the sets, so could this be payback?
A source close to Kangana says that she has not been able to participate in the
initial promotions because of professional commitments. “Kangana is shooting for
Ek Niranjan in Hyderabad and thus could not go to Cannes,” adds the source.
However, Rakesh Roshan has a different reasoning. He says that the focus is on
Hrithik and Barbara because they are the lead couple.

“Kites is ultimately Hrithik and Barbara’s love
story. It’s the story of an Indian boy and Spanish girl…its message is that love
has no language. Kangana conveys that “she has the highest respect for the
Roshan family”. The source says, “Kangana enjoyed shooting for Kites. Even the
reports that she threw tantrums on the sets are untrue.”

Shilpa and Katrina will perform at IPL finale

Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty will join American
R&B sensation Akon as he sings his Grammy award winning “Smack That” at the
closing ceremony of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Wanderers in
Johannesberg on Sunday (May 24) night. Organisers also said Katrina Kaif will
join a troupe of Indian and South African dancers led by award-winning
choreographer Shiamak Davar to perform the Oscar-winning A.R. Rahman song “Jai
Ho” from “Slumdog Millionaire”. The two actors will be the only ones performing
at the finale, ending widespread speculation here that a bevy of Bollywood
beauties would feature at the closing ceremony. Caribbean music legend Eddy
Grant will perform the ever popular “Walking on Sunshine” and his anti-apartheid
hit “Gimme Hope Jo’anna”, which became an anthem in the days when the white
minority government of South Africa strictly regulated everything from music and
song to social gatherings.

The five-week IPL will end on a high note for Shilpa performance-wise, but

to the Cannes fest initially. But a few weeks before the festival, the company
realised it made sense to have the youngest of their current brand ambassadors
across the world at the festival.

In a last minute decision, they decided to get Sonam
to Cannes for the red carpet.Sources said the same brand had independently sent
an invitation to Anil Kapoor as well to walk the red carpet. The idea was that
the Slumdog Millionaire actor would walk the red carpet with his daughter and
introduce her to the media as L’Oreal’s newest brand ambassador. Now that the
invitation to Sonam has been withdrawn, allegedly under pressure from Aishwarya,

Khan’s ouster from his upcoming film had nothing to do with her acting
capabilities. He says he roped in Genelia D’Souza as the heroine’s character
changed over time.Ken rubbishes rumours that he made the change overnight as he
didn’t like the rushes of whatever had been shot of Jiah so far. And he stresses
that he would love to work with the spunky actress in future projects. “Jiah is
a very good actress and has her own space where she performs really well. She
being replaced has nothing to do with her capabilities as an actress. She is
very good at what she does and I’m 100 per cent sure that I will rope her in
again when an opportunity comes,” said Ken.So how did Genelia come into the
picture? “Honestly speaking, it was the sea change in the female protagonist’s
character that drove me to make the change.

Earlier the character was a lot hotter and Jiah
fitted the bill. Now she’s turned much cuter and Genelia turned out to be the
perfect choice,” Ken explained.”At the end of the day Jiah and Genelia are quite
different, whether in terms of looks or attitude. There is a different kind of
energy expected from the newly-written character and I’m getting that from

gestures while shooting for “London Dreams”. During a casual chat with co-stars

Even though she loves dogs, she said that she has never been able to own
one.

Music maestro A.R. Rahman, whose compositions in
“Slumdog Millionaire” made him the first Indian to win twin Oscars, is critical
of political parties using for a poll campaign the song “Jai Ho” that he
composed for Danny Boyle’s rags-to-riches drama. “I was like in the bed, I was
dehydrated, exhausted, and then all these things happened, somebody told me
these people are using it. I hate politics. I just want people to serve the
people. I want governments, whichever government comes in, to be unbiased and
say there should be justice in the country and that’s my purpose in life,”
Rahman said in an interview on CNN’s Talk Asia.The interview will be aired on
CNN May 20 and there will repeat telecasts May 21 and May 23.

The Congress had bought exclusive rights to the song
“Jai Ho” for its poll campaign but the jingle was later dropped as the party’s
theme song. In the interview, the shy composer also explains how his accolades
for “Slumdog Millionaire” are also a recognition for India. “I got very
emotional when saying this is for India, when you guys truly deserve it because
there are so many different film industries in India, so many different markets,
Hindi film industry, Tamil film industry, Malayalam, then Bengali, so in a way I
think it culminates all their aspirations and so it’s here,” he said. Before he
shot to stardom with the film “Roja”, Rahman used to create radio jingles.

He has since collaborated with international music
superstars like Michael Jackson and Kylie Minogue. When asked about his next
project post-Oscars, he said: “I have a couple of offers from Hollywood. Pure
American movies which I thought for the heck of it let’s do it and a couple of
other surprises that you’ll know very soon if it works out. Big surprises I

Just when I was beginning to believe that cock and
bull story of SRK-Big B rivalry ending I was told this: Shah Rukh Khan has
planned his annual vacation in such a way that he won’t be able to attend the
International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards. And if one notices it has
almost become a ritual of sorts every year. Now the awards ceremony is said to
be the bastion of the Bachchans. And that’s reason enough for Shah Rukh Khan to
avoid it as diplomatically as possible. But when Amitabh Bachchan publicly
expressed his desire to invite SRK, everyone’s ears perked up!A little birdie
tells me that Big B has also kept his word and sent out an invite to SRK.
Needless to say our man has already found a suitable excuse.

Apparently SRK plans to vacation with his family in
London for some 10 days.I am also told that he will address a select section of

Sanjay Dutt can fly abroad!

The Supreme Court allows Sanjay Dutt to fly abroad
to undertake shooting of around half a dozen of his films for over six months. A
bench of Chief Justice KG Balakrishnan, Justice Arijit Pasayat and Justice P
Sathasivam ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to release Dutt’s
passport to enable him undertake his foreign trips. The bench of judges also
made sure that Dutt should submit his passport to the CBI latest by January 10,
2010 after his return.Senior counsel and former additional solicitor general
Mukul Rohtagi appeared on behalf of Dutt and told the court that his client has
six films lined for shooting abroad.

The films which are on hold include All the Best,
The Fun Begins, No Problem, Double Dhamaal, Sankee, and Indian and shootings are
scheduled between June 10 and December 31, 2009 in South Africa and
Canada.

Aamir Khan’s used to giving autographs to others. So

Vidya Balan can’t fit into her old clothes

Vidya Balan’s costumes in Ishqiya are being altered
to fit her changed size; she has lost 10 kilos. Last month, we told you about
Vidya Balans drastic weight loss. While Vidya is more than happy after losing 10
kilos, the producers of Ishqiya, Vishal Bharadwaj and Manasi Maroo have a new
problem on hand. They have to alter Vidyas costumes as they no longer fit the
actress. Confirming this, Abhishek Chaubey, the director said, Yes we were
compelled to alter Vidyas outfits. But the overall effect is that she is looking
gorgeous in the film.A source said, There is a lot of patchwork left for which
Vidya has to again wear the outfits she wore during the films shoot.

But the clothes have become quite loose for Vidya
now. While Vidya remained unavailable for comment, Maroo did not deny the story
. For the scenes that are yet to be canned, we will have to take fresh
measurements. I cant quantify Vidyas weight loss but I must say she has lost a
substantial amount of weight, said Maroo.

In Ishqiya, Vidya plays a complex character and
fools the uncle-nephew jodi played by Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi

Salman to fulfil Asin’s wish

Asin’s long standing wish will soon be fulfilled.
While she was being pampered by everyone on the sets of London Dreams, Asin
happened to tell co-stars Salman Khan, Ajay Devgan and some unit members about
her love for pets. She told them how she never had a pet dog despite really
wanting one. Salman, known for his big-hearted gestures, took note of Asin’s
wish and immediately started looking for a pet dog especially for her. A source
from the unit said, While chatting during a break, Asin told us all how she
always wanted a pet dog when she was a child. However , her father Joseph
Thottumkal always evaded the subject of bringing home a pet and kept promising
her one when she turned 10 years old.

Once she turned 10, he told her he will get her one
when she turns 15. Asin said that the years went by but she never got to keep a
pet dog at home. Touched by her story, Salman, who is a dog lover, has been
looking for a suitable pet, which he wants to gift to Asin, added the source.
Asins father said, I always avoided bringing home a dog and yes, I did promise
her a dog when she grew up so that by then she would understand how unhealthy it
was to have a dog in the house.

When asked about Salman gifting Asin a pet dog, he
said, I have absolutely no idea about it.

Hrithik and Barbara will be walking the red carpet on the day rushes of the film

showcased at Cannes, and will be shown to international buyers on May 16. Kites
has been tagged under the genre of romantic thriller, and tags a running time of
135 minutes. There are also plans to have a press conference with the local
press. Since this is Hrithik’s first time to Cannes, he wants to make the most
of his trip. The trip will also be a huge deal for Barbara, who has jumped into
the big league after being a Mexican TV actress.”

said that while she was studying in Kolkata, she met this guy at a night club.
They became good friends and after a couple of meetings, he proposed to her.
Celina accepted his proposal. But after a few months she realised that he was a
closet gay.They broke off but continued to be good friends. After his
preferences became public, the guy led a very abusive and a traumatised life. He
passed away last year due to heart failure.

But Celina could not forget her first love.Her love
for this person continues to be a major factor in her life and in her quest for
gay rights in India.Celina had faced hurdles for supporting this cause. She says
that there is a Bollywood website where she has been abused.I have got
threatening letters from certain cultural activists but I have carried on
because somebody has to take the first step,” says Celina. “This is a human
rights issue and not charity.

I worked with a gay group in Kolkata. I have also
worked in HIV awareness camps. I hope to do much more and the health ministry is
also very supportive of it. There is a student community that has supported my

Cops raid Jaya Prada’s hotel

Samajwadi Party’s Rampur candidate Jaya Prada’s
hotel room was raided by the police late on Monday night. Her supporters allege
that it was another attempt to malign Jaya Prada. Rampur goes to polls on
Wednesday and the constituency has been witnessing a bitter battle between the
party General Secretary Amar Singh and Azam Khan camps. Jaya Prada had on Monday
accused Azam Khan of distributing her fake nude posters. In an exclusive
interview to CNN-IBN she also said that she had contemplated committing suicide.
“I thought of it the moment I came to know that this is the only meaning of
woman, because I don’t have a background of politics, because I am individual
(sic).

Whatever I have achieved is by myself, I have earned
so much of fame and people love me so much, this is the reason some people are
feeling jealous,” said Jaya Prada.It is very unethical (that these) things are
happening. We talk about women’s respect in society and I don’t think any
respectful woman can come into this kind of politics because one cannot stoop to
such levels. If they wanted to fight let us face the battle - I am ready to face

Ash has lost her appeal, thinks Sonam

Bipasha’s woes in Bollywood!

“Raaz” and now she is not in the sequel of last year’s hit thriller
“Race”. But Bipasha Basu is not complaining and says it’s a tradition in
Bollywood not to repeat actresses in sequels. I heard even Abbas-Mustan
are not doing ‘Race 2′. If the original directors are not doing the
sequel, who am I? I haven’t been approached for ‘Race 2′. That’s fine,”
Bipasha.In Bollywood, the heroines are never signed for sequels. It’s a
tradition. Just check the sequels. The guys get repeated. The girls
don’t. It’s a man’s world. I don’t feel like a second citizen for that.
When ‘Raaz 2′ was made everyone kept asking why I wasn’t in it. But I
never worried about that. No point in crying about it,” she added. The
original “Raaz” starred Bipasha with Dino Morea and was directed by
Vikram Bhatt.

Part two, titled “Raaz - The Mystery
Continues”, featured Kangana Ranaut, Adhyayan Suman and Emraan Hashmi.
Directed by Mohit Suri, the horror thriller was released early this year
and did satisfactory business at the ticket window. Spurned by the
“Race” producers, Tips Films, Abbas-Mustan are planning to revive their
long-forgotten shelved project “Mr. Fraud” for Shree Ashtavinayak
Cinevision Ltd and the actress says she will be really happy if the film
sees the light of day.If ‘Mr. Fraud’ is revived, I’d be happy to give
dates. The film was shot in London and the styling was not time-bound,”
she said. Bipasha has also just signed her second comedy. Coincidentally
it reprises the “Mr. Fraud” trio - Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgan and Bipasha.
“That’s right Sanjay, Ajay and I are together again in ‘All The Best’.

This is the one film I’ll enjoy doing. I had
a ball doing ‘No Entry’. Initially I had too many inhibitions about
Bollywood. ‘No Entry’ made me drop those inhibitions. I’m sure Rohit
Shetty’s ‘All The Best’ will make me more uninhibited. It’s a fun film
and I don’t have to always do roles that reflect my personality.
Sometimes it’s fun to do a fun film,” said the actress. Bipasha has
signed only one film this year.”I don’t want do any more work than my
pace allows me. I don’t want to compete with anybody. I’ve made a niche
right from my first film. I’m Bipasha Basu. I don’t think there’s any

Hrishita Bhatt missing from movie sets

producers of the movie Shadow - The Dark Side of Truth are worried. This film is
on the floors and is almost ready to wrap up. The film’s leading lady Hrishita
Bhatt has disappeared without any notice. The actress didn’t show up for the
shoot twice and is not even answering calls.

The set was erected especially for the song and all the crew members along with the dancers were left waiting for Hrishitta to show up.

The makers have now have decided to take the matter upwith their producers’
association (AMPTPP). Shadow producer Samshaad Alam says, “This is truly
unprofessional behaviour on her part. The worst part is that she hasn’t even
given us a reason as to why she has stopped the shoot.

Kolkatta team is the first team to be bumped off the IPL bandwagon but its co-owner Shahrukh Khan says he has moved on and his main focus area is entertainment, where he is not concentrating.

What’s your take on the producer-distributor forum and multiplex
issue?

Both sides need to understand that neither can move without the other. I think there need to be dialogue between the people who know the details. I am just a spokesperson. I am told what to say and I said it. But having said that, I truly believe that they will not budge till the World T20 is over.

So when you and Aamir met for this, didn’t you guys talk about
whatever you’ve said about each other in print?

I think it would have been childish, no? He asked me, ‘Shah Rukh, should we talk
about whatever happened?’ I said no, because to be very honest it would have
been very juvenile. Whatever I said, I said it with a sense of humour and I
would find it very difficult to explain my sense of humour to anyone. If he has
taken it seriously then I am immensely sad about it and I would never joke about
him. I will find something else to joke about now. I think I will joke only
about myself now.

What do you think went wrong with Billu?

I think it did okay finally. As a producer it did work and I have spoken to some
of the distributors and whenever I see my film has fallen short, I return the
money. So we worked that out so it does well for everyone. It was probably made
at a couple of crores more than it should have but that’s me but I think this
was the level of the film.

A lot of actors campaigned for different political parties. Were you approached too?

Yes, I have been approached but I will never do it. See I have friends in politics and they asked me but I think it would be wrong of me to speak for someone just because that person is a friend.

There are two issues: I have one with campaigning. I don’t know what I am
promoting like soap, or a drink or whatever I can sell. But my lack of knowledge
about politics is enough of a reason for me to stay away. As it is, I have my
share of controversies without being a part of politics (laughs). Also I have
friends from all kinds of parties I love Sonia Gandhi and I love Atal Bihari
Bajpyee too I have met them and they have been very nice to me. Similarly
someone like Mr Modi… I see him and find him very organised but regardless of
all this, do I know how it all works? No. And only on a friendly level to
campaign for someone, I think it is too responsible a position to be in I am not
deriding Sanju or Salman, God bless them and they must know all this.

Prachi Desai wouldnt mind kissing Ranbir Kapoor in a film

He is set to host the second season of Dus Ka Dum. But this time he will not be
as involved with the show as he was last year. A source said, “This is a result
of the huge pay cut that has happened this season. It is believed that Salman
was paid Rs 89 crore in the first season, but in the second season he will be
paid only Rs 44 crore. And with the pay cut, Salman has also cut down on his
involvement. He has refused to use his clout with his star friends and
colleagues to get them on the show. A source close to the actor said, “Salman
recently had a meeting with the programming heads. He made it very clear that he
would no longer be responsible for inviting his friends and celebs as guests on
the show. He will do his job of hosting and that will be about it.

style as usual; a big dhamaka entry is planned for him. When questioned about

Big B’s next venture based on ‘Gandhigiri’

Vivek Sharma has finally signed on Amitabh Bachchan
for his next production titled Buddham Sharanam Gachchami. The film, named after
a Buddhist chant, will preach non-violence and try to uncover the psyche of the
people who turn to violence. Sharma had approached Bachchan with the script when
they were working together on Bhootnath, and the Big B has finally signed on the
dotted line. Vivek says the subject is very close to his heart, “In fact, I had
discussed the project with Mr Bachchan during Bhoonath and he had shown
interest.

Now I am happy that he’s agreed to be a part of the
film. Vivek plans to finalise the rest of his cast in the coming days and has
already begun pre-production work. If everything goes well, then I plan to
release the film next year in October during Gandhi Jayanti. I plan to get the
top actors in the industry on board for the film. Getting another opportunity to
work with Mr Bachchan is definitely thrilling. When asked if he’s worried that
Buddhist groups might take offense to his title, he says, “No, why should they?

When they watch the movie it will be clear, why I
have used it. In fact, it preaches the Buddhist doctrine of non-violence. The
director adds that Bachchan will sport three different looks in the film, “It

Kaminey and guess what she heard. It is Taare Zameen Par writer Amole

film. Apparently Amole plays Priyanka Chopra’s brother Sunil ‘Chopper’

Aamir, a big Hepburn fan, told BT, “I was pleasantly surprised when Sean Hepburn Ferrer sent me an email asking me to screen TZP at the birth anniversary celebrations. I told the kids that I had to take a short break and flew from London to Berlin.
The Bollywood superstar, who counts Hepburn’s films Roman Holiday, Sabrina, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and My Fair Lady among his favourites, was keen to adapt Roman Holiday and make it in Hindi years ago. What impressed him about Hepburn apart from her being a stunning and fabulous actress, is the fact that she was also a great humanitarian who was recognised worldwide for her work. Hepburn, who embarked in 1988 on her second (and what she considered her most important) career as UNICEF International Goodwill Ambassador, continued this service until her death in 1993.
In 1994, her family created The Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund in order to continue her work. Aamir was overwhelmed at the number of Germans who showed up for the screening of TZP. “I’m touched and flattered that the film got this kind of a response here,’’ he said. Amitabh Bachchan in trouble over tax rebate ruling

Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan on Monday got a
notice from the Supreme Court on a plea challenging a judicial verdict allowing
30 per cent tax rebate on his income to the tune of Rs.509 million in fiscal
2001-02. A bench of Justice S.H. Kapadia and Justice Aftab Alam sought
Bachchan’s stand on the lawsuit by the union government’s Income Tax Department.
The bench also asked the actor to account for his 2001-02 income and expenditure
with appropriate proof and adjourned the matter for final hearing on October 28.

The case largely pertains to the actor’s income from
the popular TV game show Kaun Banega Crorepati on Star TV.The Bombay High Court
had allowed the actor to avail the tax relief accepting his plea that as an
artist he was entitled to the exemption as per section 80 RR of the Income Tax
Act. The Income Tax Department, however, challenged the high court ruling
contending that section 80 RR of the IT Act grants tax rebates only to those
artistes who earn either by performing outside the country or receive payment
from foreign agencies.

The tax authorities have contended that the TV show was produced by Indian
firm Star India Ltd. that renders him ineligible for the tax rebate.

seems to be on a pets loving spree. Our source, who is a close acquaintance of
both the actors revealed an interesting story depicting their love for the lost
roadside animals. Revealed the source, “A few days ago, Imran Khan found a brown
doberman puppy in the bylanes of Pali Hill area where he resides. The sweet chap
that he is, Imran actually tracked down the owner of the puppy and went to him
with his lost puppy. But the owner though acknowledged the fact that it was his
puppy, surprised Imran saying that he left it since he didn’t want to keep it
anymore.

Imran then took the puppy to his own home and since
then is treating it as his own pet. It’s a female dog and Imran and his mom
Nuzhat are enjoying its company a lot nowadays. Imran seems to have been

SRK gets a luxurious vanity van

deluxe vanity vans for years, Shahrukh Khan has made do with rented vans and
make-up rooms. But last week the actor acquired a hi-end hugely spacious vanity
van designed by ace car designer Dilip Chabria. Says a source who has seen the
van, “It’s based on the longest Volvo Chassis in the world and has multiple
axles. Shahrukh is the first actor in B-Town to own a vehicle with two sets of
axles in the rear.” The Van is steel grey in colour and SRK took active interest
in the design. The interior colours are in chrome, steel, white, and black stark
- simple stark Colours. SRK’s van is like a palace on wheels. According to a
source, “Its more like space ship.

It’s not just technologically well equipped with
computers etc but is aesthetically futuristic in design.Shahrukh knew exactly
what he Wanted right down to where a plug point is. The actor had several
meetings with Dilip and his son before finalizing on the design.The source
further adds, “Apart from the usual drawing room and resting rooms, this van has
a room which no star in B-Town has a workout room complete with all kind of
latest gym equipments. The van has many unique tricks like when it’s stationary
it becomes wider to increase floor space and some of the rooms expand. The van
took three months to design.

Shahrukh says, “It’s just a van. That’s all. Though
Dilip Chabria is reluctant to give details about the van he says, “I am highly
impressed and surprised at Shahrukh’s level of knowledge and involvement at the
design stage. Designing the van was our most difficult, ambitious and fastest
project that we have ever done in the last 16 years.”

Sonam Kapoor to set IIFA on fire

Sonam Kapoor will be performing for the first time
at The International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) at the CotaiArena in The
Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel. Informs a source from Wizcraft, the organizers of
IIFA, “We have had many stars making their debut performance at IIFA every year.
This year sonam kapoor has agreed to perform. Last year Hurman Baweja performed
while Abhishek preformed for the first time in Amsterdam in his first ever
international performance to Kajra Re with Aishwarya and and Amitabh Bachchan.
Hrithik did his first international performance with us in Sun City in 2001.

Sonam kapoor, who made her debut in Saawariya is
currently shooting for the cover of an international magazine in Abu Dhabi
confirms, “Initially I was a bit apprehensive about performing as I suffer from
terrible stage fright but Abhishek (Bachchan) and Andre (from Wizcraft)
convinced me. I met Abhishek at a radio interview where he persuaded me to sign
on. I have never done shows before even though I had many offers as I am

Guess what I heard… Matt Damon’s Bourne
Trilogy has ‘inspired’ two upcoming biggies in B’wood - Saif Ali Khan’s
home production Agent Vinod and Delhi Belly director Abhinay Deo’s film
Crooked. And what’s more, while Crooked stars husband-wife duo Abhishek
Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai (surprisingly, not opposite each other),
Agent Vinod directed by Sriram Raghavan of Johhny Gaddar fame stars
power couple Saif and Kareena (very much opposite each other).

According to Crooked producer Ritesh
Sidhwani his film is an espionage thriller on the lines of Bourne
Identity. But a birdie tells me there’s more similarities than just
that, both in terms of basic plot and the treatment.While Agent Vinod
begins shooting this month with a long schedule in London, Crooked has
been postponed due to Deo’s wife’s health problems.

What remains to be seen is who finishes
first. After all, none of us want another ‘Tasveer, Aa Dekhen Zara and

much-coveted role to none other than the glorious hurricane, Katrina Kaif.

Bannerjee of ‘Oye Lucky Lucky Oye’ fame, but the director thought that Katrina
was more suited for the role. Even though Sonam had a reliable line of
communication with Dibakar through his friend Abhay Deol (also the leading man
in Sonam’s home production ‘Ayesha’), she lost her sheen in front of the
breathtakingly beautiful Katrina. And moreover, Katrina bagged the role for her
much-criticised British accent.

The film, which also stars Imran Khan and Abhay Deol,
was evidently written with Katrina in mind but Sonam wanted to play the
character. “Anil Kapoor was very keen to have his daughter work with Dibakar. He
even called the director home and showed him a show reel prepared for an
international project. The director is also keen to work with Sonam but he sees
her as the archetypal Indian beauty. That’s not what Dibakar’s new Imran-Abhay
romance requires. The heroine must be partly firangi, so Katrina with her
firangi accent is perfect for the part,” said the source. After learning of the
‘firangi’ role, Katrina approached the director and expressed her desire to work
in his film.

pavilion at their London centre. The representatives of the wax museum had come
to India to launch cricketer Sachin Tendulkar’s wax figure. At the same time
they had set up a meeting with actor Akshay Kumar. “Yes they had set up a
meeting with Akshay and told him that they wanted to make his wax figure next
because he has an international fan following.

But he declined! Akshay does not want tobe waxed
because he does not think it is of that great importance. He recently got Padma
Shri and that is the kind of award that matters to him more than being waxed,”

Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor that their names keep recurring in connection

their names, especially Kareenas , should figure so prominently in write-ups and

Priyanka Chopra’s party trouble

A police complaint was registered against a party
organiser for allegedly playing loud music till wee hours at Bollywood actor
Priyanka Chopra’s flat in suburban Andheri, police said. “Police control room
received a complaint at around 02.30 AM (IST) that loud music was being played
in Raj Classic building in Versova. When police reached there, they found that
party was going on in Priyanka’s flat,” said a senior police officer.

“The party was stopped immediately as it was causing disturbance in the
vicinity. Police asked the organiser to pay Rs 5,000 as deposit amount and
appear before the court,” the officer said.The organiser Raja Mohammed Bashir,
who paid the deposit amount to police, was asked to remain present before a
local court tomorrow, they said.

“Depending on the nature of the case, the court would decide whether to fine
him or punish him in any other way,” the officer added.
